New paintings during Covid

As I am just about to release my new series of paintings and works on paper , I am grateful that we as a country are moving past lockdown to some normality. The most important thing that sustained me this year were the rituals that I had established to keep me focused and in touch with family and nature. I am fortunate and grateful that I live by the sea as this is my constant source of inspiration for my abstract paintings. It was during this lockdown period that my morning walks along the bay gave me a chance to meditate and take in some daily exercise routines. The colours of the bay are a constant source of observation as an artist. At dusk my evening walks were a totally different experience, mother nature provided me with a light show of majestic colours and cloud formations that are  ephemeral and transitory.

These observations and feelings are intuitively communicated in my new series of works on paper and paintings. My love for painting is expressed through my compositions, colour harmonies and gestural brushstrokes. I hope that my work brings joy and happiness in a world that is in a constant flux.

“Sea of Dreams”

Acrylic on canvas

This painting was completed during the darkest months of August lockdown in Melbourne. My evening walks along the bay where I live revealed the glorious colours of the sunsets at dusk. I have used bright colours to emphasise the joy and beauty of our natural environment and to show the horizon in the pure white lines that caress the landscape. For me this painting communicates a sense of joy, hope and tranquility.

YELLOW MOON, MIDNIGHT SEA

“YELLOW MOON, MIDNIGHT SEA”

Oil Paint on Linen

The evening dusk along the bay conveys a sense of mystery and awe as I walked along the beach of Aspendale. The soft haze of the sky and the contrast of the blue sea was so inspiring to paint. The lines caress the horizon and create a sense of rhythm and softness in contrast to the textural background of the work.
