ABOUT ME

Hello there, thank you for stopping by my website!

I am a Greek-Australian artist working and living in Melbourne, Australia. My love for art and painting developed from my early childhood years, where themes of the sea and abstract designs influenced my perceptions. I was born in a very small town north of Greece and nowhere near a sea! It was the long voyage from my homeland Greece to Australia as a young child that I first saw the ocean, the sea and those magical blue colours.

Being immersed in the many diverse landscapes through my travels enabled me to collect ‘snapshots of memories’ of colour and light. My interest in color has its early influence from my mother’s colorful woven textiles of the Greek weaving traditions. These were lovingly made by mother’s hands and decorated our home in Greece and in Australia.

My abstract paintings explore diverse interpretations and color harmonies. I am passionate about color and light and this is my search in all of my paintings.

If you are interested in unique, original and expressive paintings that explore evocative themes of the sea and landscape then you have arrived!

SUMMER SERIES 1-4 IN PROGRESS

After successfully completing a degree in Fine Arts from RMIT University and majoring in painting and ceramics, I was drawn to painting and abstraction. I am discovering that painting takes me on a journey through various styles of abstraction. My two homelands continues to inspire me and connect me with the notions that ‘we are only an ocean away.’

Artist Statement

‘My paintings are abstracted landscapes  and built entirely from memory. Each one of my paintings develops intuitively as I navigate the negative white space with the first fluid brushstrokes laden with paint.  This initial stage pays homage to my love for abstract expressionism and the freedom to make marks on the surface. My inspiration at the core of all of my paintings connect my love for the land, sea and sky. My paintings evolve from my exploration of working with layers of oil paint mediums and solvents. It's this surface dialogue that interests me as a painter.’ Stella Greig
